Gettin’ Festive in Jersey City
You’ve probably noticed that Jersey City is looking very festive! It puts me in such a great mood. Which is very rare. JK, the holidays always have me smiling. The Christmas Tree and Menorah are both up on Newark Ave (Pedestrian Mall) and the official lighting will be on Thursday, December 8th at 5pm. They’ll have live music by Matty Dee, free treats from Choc O’ Pain and Cookies N’ Crepes and of course you can prob get a nice seat on Santa’s lap (hehe)! If you can’t make the tree lighting I’ve listed some restaurants that are really decked out this year and sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
South House is probably the most festive restaurant in Jersey City right now. It’s located right on Newark Ave and looks amazing! They always do a great job decorating for every season. This restaurant and bar brings “simple southern” to Jersey City by fusing Austin, Texas flavors and the soul of the south. Their specialty cocktails are farm to glass and they have weekly and monthly live music from some of the best bands in the country. The Rec Room is the perfect space to rent out for a holiday party since it has a full bar, shuffle board and pool tables. You can enjoy this room any night of the week since it’s open to patrons as well. On December 17th, they’ll be hosting a Bad Santa party which you won’t want to miss.
If you’re in the mood for a rustic and cozy atmosphere, The Hamilton Inn is the place for you! They have beautiful wreaths and lights throughout the restaurant and on the trees outside which gives it a very inviting feel. It’s hard passing this neighborhood favorite and not stopping in for a drink or bite. You’ll find weekly specials such as the Lobster Shindig on Tuesdays, half-priced cocktail on Wednesdays, endless happy hour on Thursdays and weekend brunch! I also LOVE their chicken nachos!
Although I haven’t tried Mathews yet it looks totally adorbz. They were smart and made this 80’s glam drink which has gone like viral in Jersey City. It’s a signature cocktail with a confetti foam. I’m not even sure what this drink consists of but I want it. White Star Bar & Grill (same owners of Mathews) also has that cozy feel and I LOVE the one in Hamilton Park but that’s probably because it’s only a 5-minute walk from my apartment. I’ll go here on date nights or if I want to get out of the apartment and grab a bite and sit at the bar. Which is like every night…just kidding bethie! The food is also excellent. I mean, really good…in my opinion!
FYI: The Garden Center in Jersey City will also be having free photos with Santa and free cookies and hot cocoa on December 11th if you have kids, nieces, nephews, young at heart OR just craving some free hot chocolate.
