Who Wants to go Ice skating?!

If you’re looking to start 2017 with a healthy and active lifestyle, we have you covered! Do you know that ice skating has many benefits and there are two rinks right here in Jersey City? Ice skating has been a winter tradition here in Jersey City and the rinks will be open until March.

Some of the benefits include: better balance, improved joint flexibility, helps build leg muscles (similar to yoga or running), aerobic exercise, builds endurance, burns calories (up to 300-600 an hour depending on intensity), relieves stress and is great for your overall mental health since you’re outside getting fresh air and enjoying the company of friends and family.

Newport Skates is an outdoor rink located near Market Village, a residential area in Newport, Jersey City. This rink has a more intimate feel and you’ll also get a nice glimpse of the New York City skyline. They also offer private lessons for anyone looking to step-up their skating game. After your workout, you can head over to Loradella’s for a delicioussalad or healthy entrée.

Charles Heger Pershing Field Ice Rink provides rentals, classes and a concession stand where you can buy snacks and warm up with endless hot cocoa. This is a larger rink than Newport Skates making it a great place for hockey games. A great bonus about this rink is that they offer free sessions with paid entry price! Lucky for you, after you work-up an appetite you can head over to Andrea Salumeria which is right around the corner from the rink. They were recently voted the best sub place in New Jersey! You’ll love their fresh homemade mozzarella.
