Art House Productions
If you are looking for some local cultural activities then get familiar with Art House Productions, Inc. They host tons of events throughout the city from theater to wine tastings to comedy nights. Here’s a little information about the organization and some upcoming events.
Art House Productions, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2001. It began as an informal gathering of poets and community members. It has since grown and significantly influences the advancement of the arts community, acting as one of the major pioneering forces for the arts in Jersey City.
There are many events and exhibits that you can enjoy along with your fellow neighbors. On June 2nd, they will be hosting “JC Fridays”, which is a Jersey City-wide free arts festival that takes place on the first Friday of every season. The festival includes art exhibits, introduction to new artists, educational activities, a spirit tasting, and live music from local musicians. There are also monthly open mics if you are an aspiring comedian, poet, or musician. The spoken word/poetry mic is the third Thursday of every month and the AH original open mic for all artists is every fourth Thursday of the month. Both mics are $5 for 5 minutes and first come first serve. The next comedy open mic is June 1st from 8-10 in the basement of Porta. This open mic is also $5 for 5 minutes but the line up is lotto style with names picked out of a bucket. This is a wonderful place for comedians of all levels to hone their skills in a supportive environment.
Shoutout to Meredith Burns (@Burnseasy) who is now the Executive Director at Art House Productions. She is one funny chic who will definitely bring lots of fun events to the city.
